Currently in our third year of starting band instruction at the 5th grade level, the CMS bands have doubled in size in recent years. The current class  line-up has 2 periods of Beginning Band instruction, the CMS Intermediate Winds, the CMS Advanced Winds, and a Percussion Class.

Beginning Band students meet in 2 periods on the "basic" instruments of Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion, where they learn music fundamentals and instrumental techniques. They will perform as a group in the Christmas and Spring Concerts.

Percussion Class students are 2nd and 3rd year players in a period dedicated to percussion techniques for individual and ensemble growth. They will form the percussion section of the Intermediate and Advanced Bands for performances; and have opportunities for honor band an solo/ensemble participation.

Intermediate Brass and Woodwind students rehearse in one class period, but can have section practice. Some students will transfer their skills to the "specialized" instruments of Tuba, Saxophones, French Horn, and/or Double Reeds. They will performer as group in the Christmas and Spring Concerts, and have a band contest event.

Advanced Brass and Woodwind students rehearse in one class period, but can have section practice. This group will have many performance opportunities throughout the year, including concerts, contests, pep assemblies, and a combine performance with the CHS Band.
